Gesture for want, and tears for all that is dark

This work stems from a deeper examination of carnival costume and mask making practices found in the Caribbean and West Africa. I am attracted to the hybrid nature of the spiritual beings conjured through these practices—their mixed identity, their “in-betweeness,” and their colonial, political, and nationalist origins.
