In this class, we’ll explore strategies for sharing our identities and causes on Instagram. Understanding how words and images move through social networks is increasingly essential for how we perceive the world today. Social media consultant Robin Cembalest offers practical tips on how to craft an authentic voice, to look and to be seen, and to post ethically and responsibly in the current moment.

About the Presenter:
Robin Cembalest is an editorial consultant who specializes in social media and content management strategies for organizations and individuals working in the arts, design, and social justice. A respected arts writer and journalist, Cembalest was the longtime executive editor of ARTnews. She is now better known for her popular Instagram and Twitter feeds.

She studied art history and English at Yale before beginning an editorial career at Artforum. Then spent a year in Spain, fulfilling the dream of becoming a foreign correspondent. In New York, she was soon in the art world again—as news editor at ARTnews. In 1998, Cembalest became executive editor of the century-old magazine, shepherding it into the digital era with the launch of original web content and social media channels, creating and running an intern program, and expanding coverage of diverse creative communities around the world.

Cembalest published everything from investigative journalism to listicles. Besides ARTnews, she has written for the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, many of the major art magazines, and many other publications in the U.S. and abroad.
