The Paul Robeson Galleries’ (PRG) mission and programming embody Paul Robeson’s life-long commitment to unfettered artistic freedom, cultural democracy, and transnationalism. PRG are dedicated to enhance the lives of our audiences through cultural offerings, virtually, as well as on and offsite. We organize exhibitions and associated public and education programs. We are committed to all forms of art and culture, and use the visual arts as a starting point for our activities. This is our 40th year of operations and we did have a suit of programs planned to celebrate the occasion, but these were abruptly put on indefinite hold in March. Our mission for the PRG is carried out through the presentation of exhibitions and programs (education and public). We present arts and visual culture of a diverse nature, and it is our intention to create dialogues between types of art which might not have been seen together before. We strengthen collaborative relationships with Greater Newark’s artistic, cultural and educational institutions, and do so by emphasizing the roles of the arts and culture in the shaping and functioning of society. We initiate cross-disciplinary and civic dialogues as ways of strengthening the bonds between art, education, and democracy.
